Issue: On certain RV trailers equipped with a certain power center, a software problem in the solar controller could allow the controller to overload the 12V electrical system. If this happens, the power center could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the trailer brakes and exterior lights not to work. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Trailer lights that don't work could make the vehicle less visible and cause following drivers not to recognize that the vehicle is braking or intends to turn or change lanes. These issues could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loss of trailer brakes could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Grand Design RV advises you to disable the solar power using the solar disconnect switch. Grand Design RV will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update for the solar controller. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Grand Design RV dealership.
